About Hue City
Hue City is known as the beating heart of Vietnam. It was home to the Nguyen emperors, who ruled from the Royal City until 1945. There are some incredible tombs of the country’s leaders scattered around the city and surrounds. Construction began on the city’s Citadel in 1804 and is surrounded by a 10km moat, and with 10 fortified gates with bridges to cross the moat. The rulers lived in a smaller citadel inside the larger one. During the war with America there was a lot of bomb damage to it, but renervations have restored most of the damage and other work is on going. Hue city sits on the banks of the Perfume River, and a boat cruise along the gentle flowing river to visit the amazing temple on display. If it is history you are looking for, then Hue City is the place to visit.
